Marketing Jeopardy

An interesting incident occurred in Saudi Arabia during the time when Coca-cola was first launched in the local market. Advertisements through TV ads were not allowed at that time by the government thus Coke had to choose print media for their product promotion. They salesman was unable to speak in Arabic so he thought he would post 3 posters to convey the promotional message. The salesman explained, “When I got posted, I was very confident that I would make a good sales pitch. But I had a problem. I did not know how to speak Arabic. So, I planned to convey the message through three posters.”

The first poster: A man lying in the hot desert sand totally exhausted and fainting.

Second poster: The man is drinking Coca-Cola.

Third poster: Our man is now totally refreshed.

And then these posters were pasted all over the place. I thought, terrific, that should’ve worked. Hell it should have! But no one told me they read from right to left.
